We can’t do this important work without the support of our community. Your investment, of any amount, truly makes a difference in HDCofHR‘s ability to provide quality, affordable, rental housing to income-challenged individuals and families across the Peninsula.

In addition, we are pleased to be able to offer NAP credits to our generous donors! In return for contributions, businesses, trusts and individuals can receive tax credits equal to 65% of the donation that can be applied against their state income tax liability! The minimum donation for individuals is $500 and for businesses, $616. Please email us if you are interested. To learn more about this program, click here.

Housing Development Corp of Hampton Roads was founded in 2005. We purchased our first housing unit in 2008. Today, 20 years later, we have an inventory of more than 3o housing units!

The need to provide affordable housing is critical:

  • Virginia Peninsula’s homelessness rate has outpaced state & national averages since 2023.
  • There are 2,000 people on the Peninsula experiencing homelessness every year.
  • Home prices in Virginia have risen more than 40% in the last 5 years.

Your financial contribution will go directly to fund the purchase and refurbishment of affordable housing for those in need in Hampton Roads. We welcome support at any level.

“Housing affordability, stability, quality, tenure and location have been shown to impact child development and opportunities for individuals and households. Housing has been established as the foundation for family well-being (Bratt, 2002). Housing unaffordability is often the reason individuals and families experience instability in housing, accept sub-standard housing, or sacrifice other important needs like child enrichment, medical attention, or food. Strained finances and substandard or unstable housing may lead to negative economic consequences for both individuals and households.”
